Not only is Retreat East situated in beautiful countryside, it also resides in the home county of multi-awarding winning international music star Ed Sheeran. Why not enjoy some of his favourite places in Suffolk when staying with us, you could even go all out and listen to his music whilst exploring! Here are just a few of the places he enjoys visiting or that feature in his songs and music videos.

Explore the ‘Castle on the Hill’

Sing your heart out to the Ed Sheeran classic whilst exploring Framlingham Castle, an English Heritage site. Wander the grounds and explore the castle where Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen of England. The castle is also surrounded by parkland and a beautiful lake make it a great location for a picnic during the warmer summer months. Booking ahead online will guarantee your spot, but you can also book tickets on arrival, plus if you are an English Heritage member you can visit the castle for free.

Stroll Southwold Pier

Recreate Ed’s iconic music videos with a visit to Southwold Pier, the backdrop for Borderline and ColourBlind. Whilst you're there, you can enjoy the amusements, attractions and refreshments the pier has to offer. Try your luck in the arcades, enjoy a coffee at the Clockhouse or enter the eccentric world of Tim Hunkin’s Under The Pier show. There really is something for all the family to enjoy from toddlers to grandparents and everyone in between!

Wander Woodbridge

Whilst the music video for End of Youth was filmed at a school making it not quite possible to fully recreate this music video, you can explore the picturesque town the school is located in. The town is adorned with a variety of local independent shops, restaurants and cafes mixed with high street names. Not far from Woodbridge is the National Trust Saxon burial site, Sutton Hoo - a great place to visit for those who love history or those who are fans of the Netflix movie the Dig starring Ralph Finnes and Carrey Mulligan.

Head to the beach at North Denes

Boat and Salt Water’s music video was filmed close to the groynes and dunes near the Gunton Warren Nature Reserve. You can explore the rugged coastline, build a sandcastle or two, enjoy an ice-cream from one of the local shops or just sit and relax whilst soaking up the seabreeze and stunning views.
