Autumn at Retreat East is a season of golden light, rustling leaves and hearty harvest menus. The meadows turn copper, the kitchen garden delivers its most abundant produce of the year, and the cooler air makes returning to a warm barn feel that little bit more rewarding.

With shorter days but plenty of crisp sunshine, autumn is one of our favourite seasons for walking, cycling and slow weekends in the country. The surrounding Suffolk landscape takes on a quieter, more atmospheric feel — a perfect backdrop for switching off and reconnecting.

What makes autumn special at Retreat East

\n\n

Harvest season is the highlight of the year for our chefs. From squash, pumpkin and root vegetables to game and orchard fruits, the autumn menu in The Great Barn is as rooted in Suffolk as it gets. Expect rich, comforting flavours, locally pressed apple juice and a dedicated harvest afternoon tea.

\n\n

Outside, the grounds are at their most photogenic. Borrow a pair of wellies and head out for a long woodland walk, take a cycle ride through the rust-coloured lanes, or simply curl up with a book by the fire as the light fades earlier each evening.
